Toners
The primary function of a skin toner is to help restore and maintain the skin’s natural pH balance after cleansing. The skin pH is slightly acidic, typically within a pH range of 4–6.
In the past, cleansing was often done with soap, which has a much higher pH (8–10). This imbalance could leave the skin feeling dry, tight, and rough, as soap not only removes impurities but also strips away essential lipids that support the skin’s protective barrier.
Although modern cleansers are formulated to be skin-friendly and close to the skin’s natural pH, the skin can still feel slightly dry or tight after washing. Using a toner helps rebalance the skin, restore comfort and prepare it for the next steps in your skincare routine.
